This division is comprised of certified officers who hold Reserve Deputy status within the Wharton County Sheriff's Office Reserves, Inc. 

The division is often called upon to assist the Wharton County Sheriff's Office many times throughout the course of the year.  They can often be seen in action at various community events such as the county fair, parades, and assisting as needed on patrol assignments and transport duties.

A reserve deputy is a volunteer position and one which is extremely important to the daily operations of the Wharton County Sheriff's Office.

Qualification Standards for Wharton County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputy


Applications:

1.     Any citizen over twenty-one (21) years of age and being a resident of Wharton County may apply for membership in the Wharton County Sheriff's Reserves, Inc.   All applicants must be certified by the  Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

2.     A membership committee comprised of the County Sheriff (chairman) and the Vice-President, and three (3) other members, who are appointed by the President, screens and processes all applicants.

3.     All applicants are checked through the city, state, and f.b.i. files.   their business and personal references are also thoroughly checked.

4.     After background check and interview by the membership committee, he or she is recommended for acceptance and voted on at the next regular business meeting.

5.     After being accepted by a majority vote of the membership, the new member pays his/her initiation fee of $5.00 and dues for the year.

6.     All reserve officers purchase their own equipment, uniforms, guns, etc. and receive no reimbursement.

 


Standards

Must be a United States Citizen

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age

Must have a high school diploma or have passed a G.E.D. test indicating a high school level and have proof of the same

May not have any physical defects (Corrected eyesight only exception)

Must attend and satisfactorily complete the minimum hours of training required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education

Must furnish the documents listed below when making application for membership

1.     Two (2) copies of DP214 Military discharge (if applicable)

2.     Two (2) copies of high school diploma or G.E.D.

3.     Two (2) copies of  birth certificate

4.     Two (2) copies of of driver's license

Must have been a Texas resdient for one (1) year

Must have been a resident of Wharton County for six (6) months

Must submit to a physical examination and furnish proof of same

May not be on probation for a criminal offense

Have not been convicted of the offense of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID)

May not be under indictment for a felony offense or have been convicted at any time of any type of felony offense as defined by Texas Civil Statutes, Art. 4413 (29aa) Section 8A (c)

Have not had a license issued by the Commission  (TCLEOSE) revoked
