The Wharton County Sheriff's Office D.A.R.E. Program was initiated in the fall of 1992 by Sgt. Andrejczak and Lt. Marek after being trained in Phoenix, Arizona, in July of 1992.   The curriculum is taught to the 5th and 7th grade students in the schools districts of East Bernard, Boling, and Louise.  Visitation lessons also start early  in Pre-K through 4th grade.   At the sixth grade level, students are taught gang resistance using the GREAT curriculum.  Each school year, over 2000 students in the school districts of East Bernard, Boling, and Louise benefit from the anti-drug, violence, and gang message from the DARE/GREAT Officers.

There are plans to add a high school curriculum to the current program.  Future plans are to initiate a parent program also.
